A Tree Planted by the Water

Life is a roller coaster it seems sometimes.  You're up and then you're down.  You're on fire and then you feel nothing.  You are knowledgeable and then you don't know what to do.  What is going on with people?

To try to live by ones' feelings is entirely impossible.  If we did that, then nothing would ever be accomplished for the Kingdom of God.  God's word tells us that we "walk by faith and not by sight."  You cannot trust your feelings because your feelings will change within the next second.  We all know that from our experience.

There are times that our lives appear to be like leaves blown into a rushing river of water...moved here and there, crashed against rocks, tossed up and down...aimlessly controlled by the raging river around us.  At least when we depend on our emotions...

But the Psalmist puts it a different way in chapter (1:1-3), "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on this law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.  Whatever he does prospers."

Thank God I don't have to rely on my feelings.  My feelings tell me that I'm not getting anywhere.  My feelings tell me that I'm not going to be a success, and that I do not have what it takes.  My feelings tell me to give up dreaming altogether.

But His Word says that if I walk in His ways and keep His commands, I can and will be rooted in Him.  Instead of being like a leaf blowing in the water, I can be a tree planted by the water.  That means I do not have to depend on how I feel, but I rest in the fact that my roots are planted deep in the soil of God's word.  My life is in Him and not blowing in the wind.  I will be tall! I will be strong!  And yes, I will be fruitful!  I just have to stay planted in Him.

Plant yourself in the word of God today...you shall not be moved!

Facing Forward!

Stan
