Our words have power, whether we realize it or not. We can choose to speak life or death, or blessing or cursing into something or someone. Most of the time, we probably do not think twice about what we say or how it affects those around us. James 3 tells us that out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing.
I would that we would speak more praise, more encouragement and more life into our lives and the lives of others. Truly, the power of life and death is in our tongues. I can talk myself into a depression if I so choose... (but I dont!) I can gripe and grumble to the person sitting across from my desk until they start feeling and saying the same things I do...(but I shouldn't!)
I have to look at the life of Jesus and how He talked while on earth. He went around encouraging others, speaking kindness into hurting people, speaking forgiveness to the unforgivable, literally speaking life into dead people! Should I do anything less that what He did? I think not.
You can read the creation account in Genesis and see that our Heavenly Father was creative and life-giving with His words, "let there be light"...and it was so! Let us not forget that we were made in His image so we need to be mirroring the ways of our Father.
When we speak, we need to be speaking life into our situations and into the lives of people. I have been working in the corporate marketplace for many years. And I know what people listen to at any given time. They are berated, told that they aren’t up to the task, scolded or constantly redirected…with little encouragement. The church needs to be the place where a person can come and be encouraged. And the people of God need to be the ones who are speaking life.
What is Jesus doing at the right hand of God right now for you? Is He discouraging you, telling you what you should have done this or that, etc. No! He is interceding for you and me. He is your biggest fan right now. He is cheering you on to greater works!
Why not speak life today!
Facing Forward...
