In the Waiting...

I hate waiting!  I am not good at it...although, maybe I am.  I sure have accomplished a great deal of it.; and furthermore...seems like that's all I do. Waiting is something that is definitely distasteful to most people.  We all probably prayed for patience when we were younger, and have been paying for it ever since! (I mean that as a joke of course.)

The problem with waiting is that we want things the way we want them, when we want them.  Instantly, without a hitch.  And that is just not how life works.

But there is something about waiting that works better for us than just immediately obtaining what we want or pray for.  We get more out of the process..."in the waiting", than we do the immediate gratification.  The scripture says that "they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength."  We learn about God's timing, about His purpose, and a little more of just how He is working in our lives...in the waiting.

That is a comfort to me.  However, I find that as I am practicing patience...I become weary, discouraged, and want to give up on what God has promised me. It should not be surprising to anyone...we all  experience it.  Waiting can make us tired and weak. But, the word of God says that "His strength is made perfect in my weakness..."  And I lean on that too.

But even the scripture does not take away the disappointment I experience sometimes, when things do not work the way I want them too, or when I want them too.  I just have to experience the emotions...work through them, and then get passed them.

That is why it is imperative for every believer to stay in the word daily, to whatever degree they can.  His word sustains us.  It doesn't make our problems go away, or make the wait shorter.  But it gives us a firm foundation of truth to know that we do not have to wait alone.   Afterall, His promises are "yes and amen"...in other words...you can take them to the bank!  They are a sure deal.

So what does one do when there is nothing else to do but wait?  The word of God says that "Having done all to stand, we stand".  In other words, continue to stand on God's word and wait for the promise.  That is what the Israelites had to do.  They had to wait.  They had to stand.  They had to walk on at times.  But God showed up throughout those 40 years in the midst of the waiting.  Miracles happened in the midst of the waiting.  Provision happened in the waiting.  And yes, deliverance happened in the waiting!  How cool is that?

We tend to believe that nothing good can come during the process because we are not where we think we should be, in the time-line we should be in.  However, God can and will show up in the waiting.  So, I don't know what you are waiting on today...but I do know God is right there with you "in the waiting".

Facing Forward!
Stan
