End of Self

Have you ever come to a season of your life where you felt like you were at the end of yourself? If not, hold on, because you will get there. It happens at different seasons in life, but it does happen to most everyone serving God. It is one of the most frightening places to be but can also result in the most amazing relationship one can ever experience.

You may be inquiring as to how losing strength, motivation, answers, direction, and other tools in life can help you in some way to experience something good. Well, I have the answer for you.

Psalm 73:26 says that "my flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever...."

So basically, it indicates that we might come to the end of ourselves...our motivation, our tenacity, our will to hang in there. Those things can and do happen to people who love God...to you and to me. We know that the writer of this Psalm, King David, certainly arrived at that point of life. He was a shepherd boy who was anointed king. He served Saul faithfully only to be chased like a wild animal being hunted by King Saul. He sinned with Bathsheba and she became pregnant, and then had her husband sent to the front lines so he would die in battle. Yeah...he hit the bottom. He was a king....yet, he bottomed out.

The question is how we will respond to this when we get to this place. Will we quit God altogether? Will we stop believing or walking the path He has set us on? I hope not. The best way to handle this situation is to just get out of the way altogether. When we empty ourselves, God will step in and be what we need.

I have been there and I have been amazed at what God gave me when I could not go on and just wanted to sit down and shut up. He has been strength in my weakness, peace in my confusion and motivation when my heart when I could not go on.

You have got to get good and empty so God can fill you up with what you really need. See you do not need yourself, your talents and abilities...your know-how, your personality....as those will only get you so far. What you really need is all that God wants to be for you and through you.

The apostle Paul said it best..."In Him I live, move, and have my being..."
So if you are empty, you can be filled. And as you come to the end of yourself, you will find an intimacy with your creator like you have never known. Your need for Him has drawn you to Him. And the emptying out of self allows Him to come in and fill you with all of Him.

I urge you...get empty and filled today.

Enjoying Life Today!
